Acceptance rate for med schools are sub 40%
1. Suboptimal Hard Components
- Low GPA and/or low MCAT score
- Higher GPA and MCAT mean a better chance in acceptance in medical school
- If lower GPA or MCAT you have to outshine your other aspects
2. Checkbox Mentality
- students will look up specific requirements for medical school on google and just complete them assuming that it will grant them acceptance into the school
- This mentality makes you a cookie cutter applicant
- Instead of checking boxes you need to lean into opportunities outside of medicine which allows you to create a compelling narrative
- Lean into interests or desires you wish to do
- Discuss about deeper experiences
3. Not Choosing the Right or Not Applying to Enough Schools
- Apply to more instate medical schools that receive public funding from the state
- Choose a school with a decently large class size
- Look at the school’s mission statement:
- If a school is about research and you have no interest/experience in research don’t apply to that school
- If a school is focused on primary care and you want to specialize in neurosurgery you need to apply to a school for suited to that interest
